I was over the moon to win a T-shirt Competition during my time on
the 2nd Year Extended Diploma course. The brief was to re-design the
t-shirts for The White Water Centre, a local business specializing in white
water rafting and canoeing. We visited the centre, met the clients and took photos of rafts going down the river. Using the photos I'd taken I sketched a simple canoe and scanned it onto the
computer, I simplified the sketch and highlighted the outline of the canoe. I decided to make the design black or white, this meant that the design could be applied to any colour t-shirt, making it more versatile it also meant the clients themselves could choose what colour t-shirt the design would be printed on. Because of the basic colours of the design it also meant that the cost of printing a bulk of t-shirts would be much less than if the design was brightly coloured and extravagant. I believe being
flexible with my design, enabling the company to choose the t-shirt colour and
make changes to the design if they wish gave me that edge.
